What is the purpose, benefits and risks of upper Endoscopy?

Upper endoscopy allows for direct visualization of the lining of the upper GI tract via insertion of a flexible tube. What is the purpose, benefits and risks of Colonoscopy?

Colonoscopy allows for direct visualization of the lining of your colon (large intestine) via insertion of a flexible tube as thick as your finger. The main purpose of this procedure is for colon cancer screening and prevention as well as diagnosis of common lower GI tract disorders. We perform this procedure directly in our office. What should I bring with me to my first visit?

  • If you are coming as a new patient, please complete the “Questionnaire” section on the portal. To access the portal click here.

  • If you are coming for a consultation, please bring a referral from your primary care doctor if you have a HMO insurance. Please complete the “Questionnaire” section on the portal. To access the portal click here.

  • A list of your current medications

I am only seeing some of my lab results on the portal. Where are the others?

The online portal is capable of displaying much of your lab results. Any results not seen on the portal will be emailed to you in a HIPAA-compliant fashion by our office to allow for a digital copy of your lab results.

My insurance states that my medication/imaging requires a prior-authorization. What do I do?

If your insurer states they require a prior-authorization, this means they would like more information about you prior to approving your medication or imaging test. You can contact your insurer to initiate the prior-authorization by visiting their website or contacting your pharmacy for the correct contact information. Should the insurer request any information from your doctor, our experienced and compassionate office staff will be happy to assist.
